One of the special memories I have of a trip to Kerala earlier this year with my daughter and sister was a walk around a spice garden. Spices that grow in Kerala's spice gardens are cinnamon, cardamom, vanilla, ginger, cloves and nutmeg.
Not every visitor over the centuries came only to cast only an appreciative look like we did. Spices are such a precious commodity that over the centuries marauding foreigners fought wars over them.
I took this photograph of a pepper vine. The unripe dried fruits would later become the black pepper we grind over our food each day
