The last of the Rocket ( Arugula)

We made great use of the  rocket that  was planted a while ago but it finally started to flower and got too elderly. Rocket is best picked young.

I stripped the leaves off the stalks before John uprooted the plants  and threw them on the compost heap. It's out with the old and in with the new. Punnets of rocket, spinach and lettuce seedlings are ready to take their place. They should be ready by Christmas.

Until it is ready I'll miss it. It has so many uses and it's healthy, full of vitamin A and C as well as iron,. I add it to my mesclun salad mix where the slightly bitter and peppery flavour adds a little punch, stir it through some  pasta dishes, make it into a home  made pesto with olive oil, walnuts and parmesan, and garnish pizzas with it.
